About Permaforest Trust
Permaforest Trust is a not-for-profit sustainability education organization which develops and supports working examples and related educational programs in sustainability practice.
In 1998 the Trust founded a 100 acre organic farm and sustainability centre at Barkers Vale, New South Wales in the humid subtropics of Australia adjacent to the World Heritage listed Border Ranges National Park. More recently the Trust has established an Accredited Permaculture Training program at Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia to compliment and build on the demonstration farm project. Permaforest Trust is now focusing on sustainability as it relates to 'post carbon transition' and the challenges of evolving alternatives to fossil fuel based civilization.
The Trust's Accredited Permaculture Training program is based in Byron Bay with some parts of the training taking place at the demonstration farm at Barkers Vale as well as other outstanding properties, centres and communities on the North Coast of NSW.
Integral Sustainability
Our primrary practice, philosophy and basic approach is to promote Integral Sustainability: health and evolution in body, mind and spirit; self, culture and nature.
Restoration
A primary goal is to restore the 100 acre demonstration farm to ecological health and vitality through practices including sustainable forestry, rainforest regeneration, permaculture and organic farming.
Education
We offer Certificate 4 and Diploma level programs in Accredited Permaculture Training ™ and a Permaculture Design Course. Our focus is two fold: practical, on ground skills in ecological restoration, organic farming and permaculture; and the use of these skills in project management and community development. We emphasize a balanced and integrated approach to sustainability work in general and 'post carbon transition' in particular.
