An article from the New York Times about people who are making it happen in urban areas.
It's really exciting to see that there are people, ordinary people, who are growing food in severely urban areas. It's also encouraging to see city councils allowing them to grow food on public property. This article from the New York Times describes the stories of people from Brooklyn, Harlem, Detroit and Milwaukee who are setting up urban market gardens, many of which are getting youth involved. Check it out HERE. Notice the plug for the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems at the University of California, Santa Cruz. They have a six-month internship in Ecological Horticulture. It's pretty amazing and a great opportunity to learn the necessary skills. Anyone wanna lend me $4,000? I'd like to go.
