Located in the semi-arid midwest coast of Western Australia the research farm specialises in drylands permaculture. It is self-funded through the operation of a commercial nursery of local endemic natives and drylands permaculture plants together with a small heirloom seed business and permaculture consultancy. Permaculture North is a diverse group of people with an amazing array of skills in self reliance, energy & water conservation, qualified permaculture design and teaching. We also have beginners who want to learn more about healthier, abundant and satisfied living.
We meet once a month to plan and implement projects to raise awareness of sustainable living and to circulate knowledge and resources within the group.
Permaculture North was founded in 1992 to share permaculture principles with the local community: "Care for the Earth, Care for its People, Share the Surplus". Since its inception, Permaculture North has been learning more about permaculture techniques through guest speakers including patron David Holmgren, visiting and assisting with community or school gardens, and participating in educational exhibits including Gardening Australia Live. The group also does permaculture design, backyard working bees and meets with other permaculture groups to trade skills.

This blog is the story of 15 acres of ex-cattle pasture in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. With help from Permaculture Solutions, Di Tod is aiming to implement a no-holds-barred permaculture design that achieves water security, food security, and energy security. In effect, the Permaculture Forest aspires to be a peak-oil proof save-haven that will supply enough food to keep at least 20 people happy and healthy indefinitely. Implementation began in May 2007. This blog is intended to be way of keeping friends up to date and a resource for others doing anything similar. Copy our successes and aviod our mistakes!

This blog is written by Virginia Barratt and Charlene Smith to chronicle the learnings and realisations that arise on a daily basis living on a permaculture farm. Written from the perspective of 2 grrls who have come from the city and are discovering how to make things grow, both plant and animal, and discovering the very fundamental changes it can make to one's person. We make lots of mistakes, but we honor the land and try to live by sound sustainable principles. We wake up smiling every day, ready to milk our cow, Maybe...
