Yayasan IDEP is an Indonesian NGO, which specializes in the development and dissemination of curriculum media and practical programs that educate and empower local communities in sustainable development and disaster management. IDEP believes that by engaging participatory planning methods and utilizing local knowledge communities can become empowered to develop permanent results. IDEP was officially formed in 1998 at the height of the Indonesian economic crisis, in response to urgent needs for sustainable food production and resource management. It has grown rapidly since its involvement in the 2002 Bali bombings response and recovery, and furthermore, its major role since working with Tsunami survivors in Aceh. IDEP was also involved in aid response following last year’s Java earthquake, Pangandaran Tsunami and North Sumatra / Aceh flash flooding, and has developed widely recognized non-formal curriculums for Community Based Disaster Management and Sustainable Community Development. IDEP is a local NGO with a wide and respected reputation for innovation and results; it is committed to developing self-sustainability and directly empowering communities to improve their own situations through practical solutions. Agroecology by Kaylah Ferguson — last modified 2007-11-23 17:07
This website is an information resource for developing sustainable agroecosystems, emphasizing international training, research, and application of agroecological science to solving real world problems. Building on the first Agroecology textbook, this site offers agroecological knowledge to anyone concerned with sustainable food systems. We also conduct training courses and intensive workshops on-site in Santa Cruz, California, including the International Short Course in Agroecology and support international activities linking agroecology and sustainability, such as the August 1999 Symposium on Ecological Processes in Agricultural Landscapes. Our site also provides tools for understanding principles of agroecology using a series of case studies, and a glossary of agroecological terms.
